Today is June 14, 2025 and I jumped on to share my thoughts on the Flip app. I find the Flip app to be a let down. It's definitely a pay-to-play site, for the most part. You have to purchase items from the Flip app and then you are able to review them on the app to earn commission. You earn free items (that aren't horrible!), but you have to spend somewhere around $50 to get your free stuff. So, it's a gamble on whether you will make your money back. Also, the algorithym could use a ton of work. I am seeing the most random and useless posts as I doom scroll and I have been on the app for a few days. In an attempt to see more targeted content - I did a few searches for things I wanted to see and then spent some time watching the vids in the search. I did this a few different times on a few different days (same search each time) and saw the same posts in the same order each time I searched - ugh. So, not only did my main feed not show me anything related to the videos I watched in the search - when I went back to check out new content on the subject matter I want to see, it was the exact same videos in the exact same order. Wtf, Flip.
The other thing that is pedestrian about the app is that there is no in app editing. If you film in the app, you can't edit jack. No text, no filter, no nothing. I think I would be better off just recycling my TikToks onto Flip than creating content just for Flip. Ya know, kinda what we all did on Threads and just copied over our tweets to get 'er going.
One thing everyone is talking about on Flip (that is unique to this platform) are the debates. I did check out a few and it is a pretty cool idea. You can add a debate to your post or create your own debate. People can click over to the debate and post videos with their take on the subject. I may explore this a little further in my next Flip video.
The best way I can describe Flip is that it comes across as the Dollar Store of social media apps. The content is lacking, the creators are vastly of Joe Dirt calibre, and the tech is subpar. Now that I am reading that back, it sounds super harsh. Meh, it is what it is. Maybe it just has yet to take off or maybe I am not getting great stuff since I just joined a few days ago. I am going to keep at it and see if anything gets better. For right now, Flip is ranking pretty low as a quality social media app and also as a potential supplemental stream of income.
